JOURNALISM

It is my objective to create an environment where students develop a fundamental knowledge of modern convergence journalism. Students will develop skills in writing, editing, interviewing, layout, photography, web design and other aspects that will prepare them to advance to the staff of one of the advanced media classes.

As the dynamics of technology and media evolve, so does the task of reporting the news. We will explore many of the growing avenues of media including the Internet, blogging, podcasting, etc. There are many aspects of this class that will allow students to showcase skills outside of writing. A successful staff requires peopled skilled in photography, art, technology, design, sales, marketing, and management. Many average writers go on to become excellent editors in fields other than writing.

This course will serve as an introduction to film and television production both in the studio setting and in the field.  The course will acquaint students with the technical and artistic concepts involved in successful video production. Students will develop skills through a series of readings, activities, in-class exercises, studio and field exercises, and critical evaluations of production methods and styles.

Video production is a field that demands:

  1. 1.a working knowledge of state-of-the-art electronics.

  2. 2.a keen devotion to time management.

  3. 3.an ability to work in both an independent and a cooperative environment.

  4. 4.leadership skills required to manage roles, personalities, and talents of all students.
